Tulip to be treated as fugitive if she fails to appear in court on time: ACC

British lawmaker Tulip Siddiq, niece of the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, will be treated as a fugitive and legal proceedings will continue against her if she fails to appear in court within the stipulated time.
Md Akhtar Hossain, director general of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said this to the reporters today at the ACC headquarters in Segunbagicha, Dhaka.
Meanwhile, the ACC has filed a case against four persons for allegedly attempting to embezzle Tk 5 crore by fraudulently taking a loan from Padma Bank.
The case was filed by Assistant Director Muhammad Rakib Uddin Minhaj at the ACC's Integrated District Office in Dhaka, according to Akhtar.
The accused are former chairman of Padma Bank PLC Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, the bank's senior executive vice president Sabbir Mohammad Sayem, Managing Director of Abdul Monem Limited ASM Mainuddin Monem, and Farhana Monem.
Akhtar said, "A case has also been filed against Nasrin Islam, wife of NASAA Group chairman Nazrul Islam, for acquiring illegal wealth worth Tk 20 crore."
"The ACC also filed two separate cases against 27 people, including former MD of Union Bank ABM Mokammel Haque, for embezzling Tk 33.5 crore from the bank using fake bills and vouchers," he added.
