A Dhaka court today issued a travel ban on former Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq and his wife Sharmin Akter Khan over corruption allegations.

Judge Md Zakir Hossain of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court passed the order after Anti-Corruption Commission Assistant Director Raqibul Hayat filed an application with the court, seeking a travel ban against the couple, said an ACC official working in the court.

ACC Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam moved the petition on behalf of the anti-graft watchdog, he said.

The ACC said that an inquiry is underway into the graft allegations against the couple. So, the travel ban is needed to prevent them from leaving the country.

The judge also sent a copy of the order to the special superintendent of police (immigration) of the Special Branch for the next course of action.
