CMM to probe assault of Mojaheed's lawyer
A Dhaka tribunal on Monday directed the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka to investigate the assault of a lawyer of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed allegedly by a prosecution witness on May 26.
The three-member International Crimes Tribunal-2 led by Justice Obaidul Hassan asked the CMM to submit the probe report by September 5.
On May 28, the court asked Jahir Uddin Jalal, a prosecution witness in Mojaheed’s case, to reply why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against him for allegedly assaulting Munshi Ahsan Kabir and asked Jalal to give a written explanation.
Defence said apart from assaulting Kabir, Jalal had earlier verbally attacked another counsel of Mojaheed outside the courtroom.
On June 30, Jalal, in written explanation, denied defence’s claim saying that allegation brought by Mojaheed’s lawyer “could be a strategic plan to discredit him in some way”.
Jalal also said he was ready to face any enquiry or investigation in this regard.
