5 Jamaat, Shibir men arrested
Police yesterday arrested five leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir in Rajshahi and Naogaon.
The arrestees include Jamaat leaders Ahmad Ullah, 52, ameer of Puthia upazila in Rajshahi and vice-chairman of its upazila parishad, and Kazi Fazlur Rahman, 55, ameer of Dhamoirhat upazila in Naogaon.
The three Shibir activists are Humayun Kabir, 22, Shamim Reza, 25, and Ashraful Islam, 21. The three were held in Puthia upazila, said Shakiluddin Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Puthia Police Station.
The five leaders and activists, who were on the run, are accused in cases filed with police stations in Rajshahi and Naogaon over subversive activities, said the OC.
