Eight vehicles torched in city
Islami Chhatra Shibir activists set eight vehicles on fire in the capital on Sunday evening in protest against the arrest of their leader.
Detectives arrested Shibir President Delawar Hossain at a house the city's Shyamoli on Tuesday afternoon in connection with several criminal cases.
Fire service officials said a double-decker BRTC bus was set on fire at Shahjadpur in Gulshan around 7:45pm.
Another bus was torched at Matuail in the evening, the officials added.
Three buses were set on fire around 7:15pm in Rayerbagh.
Around 8:00pm, a bus was torched at West Shewrapara and a private car was torched at Senpara in Mirpur.
Criminals set another bus on fire near Dhakeshwari Mandir around 7:45pm.
Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, has meanwhile declared a daylong hartal for Tuesday and threatened to go for a non-stop shutdown if their leader is not released soon.
