Bus strike in 10 dists of Khulna divn called off
Bus strike in 10 districts under Khulna division was withdrawn after a fruitful meeting between the leaders of Bus-Truck Owners' Association and Khulna regional unit of Bangladesh Transport Workers' Federation yesterday evening.
The regional unit of the federation enforced an indefinite strike in Jessore, Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Narail, Jhenidah, Chuadanga, Meherpur, Kushtia and Magura districts from 6:00 am on Monday, demanding pay hike of drivers, supervisors and helpers.
Azizul Alam Mintu, president of Bangladesh Paribahan Sangstha Sramik Samity, also a unit of the federation, said they called off the strike as the leaders of Bus-Truck Owners' Association accepted the demand for pay hike of bus drivers, supervisors and helpers.
Pabitra Kaputia, central vice-president of Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners' Association, said, we accepted the demand at a meeting held at the office of Jessore Inter-District Bus Owners' Association in the town.
“Wages of drivers, supervisors and helpers have increased by Tk 180, Tk 75 and Tk 50,” he said.
From now on the bus owners will pay Tk 1080 to a driver, Tk 575 to a supervision and Tk 500 to a helper for a round trip.
