BNP-Jamaat may use Hefajat for anarchy: Inu
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu yesterday said Hefajat-e-Islam stepped into a trap of BNP-Jamaat, and he urged Hefajat leaders to withdraw Saturday's long march.
Briefing journalists at PID conference room, he alleged that BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami were hatching conspiracy to oust an elected government and thwart ongoing trial of war criminals.
“BNP-Jamaat men have infiltrated into Hefajat and might create anarchy under the banner of the organisation,” Inu warned the Hefajat leaders.
Some identified cadres of pro-Jamaat Islami Chhatra Shibir, supporters of BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, and some trained jihadis, who returned from Afghanistan, are seen around Hefajat leaders, he said.
The information minister came down heavily on Hefajat leaders for their recent statements about Islam and questioning an individual's faith in Islam (Iman).
“You can't determine Iman of an individual. You can't also question the Iman of the prime minister,” he said, adding that the almighty Allah alone takes care of Islam.
The country's constitution is safeguarding all the religions. The government is taking actions against those who hurt religious sentiment through writings, Inu said.
