Blogger Asif placed on 3-day remand
A Dhaka court on Thursday placed blogger Asif Mohiuddin on a three-day remand in a case filed for hurting religious sentiment of the people using social media.
Metropolitan Magistrate Anowar Sadat passed the order after Moinul Islam, inspector of Detective Branch of police and also investigation officer of the case, produced Mohiuddin with a 10-day remand prayer before the court.
Detectives on Wednesday arrested Mohiuddin, who had been attacked by Islamist fanatics in January following alleged postings on the Internet “comments derogatory to Islam and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)” at his sister’s Segunbagicha home.
The arrest comes a day after police captured bloggers Subrata Adhikari Shuvo, Rasel Pervez and Moshiur Rahman Biplob in the capital in connection with similar offences.
Mollah Nazrul Islam, deputy commissioner of the DB said, “We have arrested Asif as he had posted many pieces insulting Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and Islam on different blogs and pages.”
Hailing from Comilla, Asif studied on electrical and electronics engineering at American International University. He won Deutsche Welle sponsored BOBs (best of blogs) award in 2012.
He had worked with an IT firm. He was active on different blogs like “somewhereinblog”, “dhormockery” and “amarblog”.
