BHF's crucial meeting today

Action against players, coaches expected

The executive committee of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) is likely to take the action against players, coaches and officials recommended by the BHF probe committee when they sit today for a meeting at its office at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium today.
The game's governing body had formed a three-member probe committee to look into the failure of the national hockey team in the AHF Asia Cup and the committee, on September 28, submitted its report at the executive committee meeting which ended without any decision.
It has been learnt that the players' unrest in demand of the inter-club players' transfers during the preparation camp was one of major reasons behind the failure of the national team which was followed by non-cooperation of some senior players during the campaign of the AHF Asia Cup where Bangladesh finished seventh among eight teams.
A source within the federation informed that senior players – Rasel Mahmud Jimmy, Zahid Hossain, Qumruzzaman Rana, Imran Hasan Pinto, Pakistani coach Naveed Alam and local coach Mahbub Harun are likely to be given opportunity to present their case by serving show-cause notices while captain Mamunur Rahman Chayan, vice-captain Krishna Kumar and manager Abdur Rashid Shikdar are likely to be warned for their roles during the Asia Cup.
A federation official, seeking anonymity, said that all players of the national team were taken hostage by a couple of senior players and even the captain hadn't had anything to say about the team.
The source also said that those players have established their complete control over the national team in the last two to three years.
