Bela serves legal notice on govt
Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (Bela) yesterday served a legal notice on the government, asking that it take steps to stop illegal hill cutting in Cox's Bazar.
It also asked the authorities concerned to assess the damage of environment and ecology of the area caused by the hill cutting.
In a press release, Bela said the hills were being cut at Jhilongja in sadar upazila for establishing a golf playground of an international cricket stadium near the sea-beach.
The notice has been sent to secretaries to the ministries of land, and forest and environment; the Department of Environment director general, Cox's Bazar deputy commissioner, DoE director (Chittagong), the upazila nirbahi officer and its assistant commissioner of land.
