Thousands suffering due to gas supply suspension in Brahmanbaria over leakage
Authorities have suspended the gas supply in three upazilas of Brahmanbaria district since this afternoon after the gas pipeline was damaged while constructing a four-lane national highway from Ashuganj river port to Akhaura land port.
At least 24,000 people of Brahmanbaria Sadar, Sarail, and Ashuganj upazilas are suffering due to halt of the gas supply.
The gas pipeline was leaked at Ghatura area under Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila during the construction, said engineer Rabiul Haque, deputy managing director of Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited, reports our local correspondent.
After the leakage, it has been continuously emitting gas at high speed, he said, adding that the gas supply was kept suspended as the people of the area panicked due to the gas emission.
An engineering team from Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited is working to solve the problem, he added.
