Locals surround, vandalise power office in Tangail over frequent load shedding
Protesting frequent load shedding, a group of angry locals, including students, besieged the Zonal Office of Mymensingh Palli Bidyut Samity-1 at Madhupur upazila in Tangail today.
They also vandalised the office while the staff of the power office fled fearing attack, reports our Tangail correspondent quoting protesters.
Locals have been suffering a lot due to the frequent power outage for the last two months and the sufferings were intensified since Ramadan, alleged locals.
Sources of Madhupur Zonal Office said that they cannot meet the local demand due to a short supply of electricity from the producer -- Jamalpur United Power Supply Company.
Today, the electricity supply in Madhupur town feeder has remained shut for the last 10 hours which made the people angry, prompting them to bring out a procession and besiege the Madhupur Zonal Office.
Abu Mohammad Yahia, deputy general manager of the power office, said a total 22 MW electricity is required to meet the demand of Madhupur but they are getting only 7-8 MW triggering the load shedding.
Shamima Yasmin, upazila nirbahi officer of Madhupur, said that the local administration is remaining alert so that the law and order is under control.
