Fuel price hike: Transport, RMG workers blockade Ctg streets
Transport workers as well as workers of different readymade garment (RMG) factories blockaded Tiger Pass intersection in Chattogram city for over three hours this morning, protesting the fuel price hike.
People in the streets said a group of transport workers took position at the busy intersection around 6:00am today and started resisting vehicular movements in support of the ongoing nationwide transport strike, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.
Mohammad Mozammel Mia, a transport worker, said the government should withdraw the fuel price hike or they will have to increase the transport fares.
Office goers including RMG workers faced difficulties in reaching workplaces for lack of vehicle. They later joined the protest after failing to find vehicles to reach their destinations.
Joshna Begum, an RMG factory worker who also joined the sit-in protest said they were continuously called by the factory management to reach their workplace but they were not able to find any vehicle for the last two hours.
"Today, we were supposed to get our monthly wages but how can we reach the factory if we can't find vehicles?" asked Joshna, adding that out of anger, the workers blockaded the roads.
The workers did not let any vehicles even rickshaws pass the intersection during the blockade.
Around 11:00am, the workers left the area following police intervention.
