Protest erupts in DU over rising rape incidents

Students of Dhaka University are protesting on the campus, demanding fair investigations into rape incidents across the country and the highest punishment for perpetrators.

The demonstration, which began after midnight, was particularly focused on seeking the maximum punishment for the rapists of an eight-year-old child in Magura.

According to witnesses, students from Sufia Kamal Hall were the first to march, followed by female students from other halls. By 1:00 AM, they had gathered at the Raju Memorial Sculpture, continuing the protest until this report was filed around 2:00am.

Chanting slogans such as "Catch every rapist, bury them one by one," the students voiced their anger and demand for justice.

Earlier, around 7:30pm, students also held a torch procession in front of Begum Rokeya Hall, calling for justice for rape victims, punishment for offenders, and greater security for women across the country.

Meanwhile, students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) staged a demonstration on the campus around 2:45am.

Earlier, students of Rajshahi University staged a demonstration protesting against rising rape incidents across the country and demanding the highest punishment for rapists.
