In order to support vulnerable women in income-generating activities and businesses, Simeen Hussain Rimi, state minister for the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs (MoWCA), inaugurated the distribution of Tk 1.9385 billion in cheques to 96,928 women beneficiaries of a project today.

Under the "Investment Component for Vulnerable Group Development (ICVGD)" project, each beneficiary will get a one-time grant of Tk 20,000 through the G2P (Government to Person) method.

The event was organised by MoWCA, in association with World Food Programme, at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy Auditorium in the capital.

The state minister said that the government's support for the improvement of women's living standards will continue.

"Today's event is a significant moment in our ongoing efforts for women's empowerment in Bangladesh. Through this investment grant, we are not only supporting women individually, but also encouraging economic growth and social development among women," she said.

"The government is committed to creating such opportunities to contribute to women's development," she added.

Under the National Social Security Strategy (NSSS) of Bangladesh 2015, MoWCA formulated and implemented the "Vulnerable Women Benefit" programme to strengthen women's contributions to economic growth.

In the second phase of the ongoing ICVGD project, 100,000 women from 64 upazilas (one from each district) have been selected as beneficiaries.

They are being provided with cash grants, 30 kg of rice per month, training in five designated subjects, and additional high-quality training in a subject of their choice, along with necessary support for business planning.

WFP Country Director Domenico Scalpelli, MoWCA Secretary Nazma Mobarek, and Department of Women's Affairs DG Keya Khan, among others, attended the event.
