Liton takes office as RCC mayor

AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, who was elected for the third time as mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation, joined office today.

Liton, alongside all 40 newly-elected ward councilors, was welcomed with a warm reception held at Green Plaza of Rajshahi Nagar Bhaban, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent.

Liton, also a presidium member of Awami League, served his first term during 2008-2013, and second term during 2018-2023. He was reelected mayor in the June 2023 elections.

Addressing the reception, Liton thanked the people of the city for supporting him and he directed all ward councillors and staff of the city corporation to stay away from politics while serving the people of the city.

"When you enter the Nagar Bhaban, please remove your political cloaks and serve all the people equally. When you go out of the Nagar Bhaban, you're free to follow whatever political party you like."
