At least 30 of its leaders and activists were injured in an attack by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Dhaka University campus this morning, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has claimed.

The incident happened at the Shaheed Minar area of the university at 9:30am, reports our DU correspondent.

Akhter Hossain, convener of DU unit of JCD, said, "As we reached the campus for peaceful activities, the leaders and workers of Chhatra League suddenly attacked us. The attack injured about 30 of our leaders and activists, three of whom are in critical condition."

The injured leaders and activists are undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Islami Bank Central Hospital, he said.

According to the previously announced programme, JCD leaders and activists were going to the office of DU Journalists' Association to explain a statement of its General Secretary Saif Mahmud Jewel, he said.

JCD claims that at the time, BCL leaders and activists of Jagannath Hall attacked them with iron rods, hockey sticks and sticks.

BCL, on the other hand, has denied the allegation.

Saddam Hossain, general secretary of DU BCL unit said, "Naturally, university students have gathered to protest against them (JCD). Chhatra League did not attack them. We have always protested peacefully against Chhatra Dal's terrorist operations."

DU Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani said in this regard, "We have informed law enforcement agencies to take action against individuals who are causing disturbance on campus."
