Women must speak up
National Debate Federation Bangladesh (NDF BD) hosted an event, titled "7th NDF BD Women Debate Festival '23" yesterday at Government College of Applied Human Science premises in Dhaka.
The festival featured 400 contestants overall from schools, colleges, universities, and open clubs.
During the opening ceremony, Tasmima Hossain, editor of The Daily Ittefaq, said, "Debate plays a significant role in reforming society. I'm glad there are so many female debaters here."
"Women must practice speaking up and expressing their opinions to achieve true independence for women in our culture. Participating in debate competitions can improve the power to communicate," she added.
Following the inauguration ceremony and welcome remarks, a parliamentary discussion on "How Using Digital Technology Would Boost Up Women's Empowerment" was held.
After this session, young debaters participated in a workshop where M Alamgir, co-chairman of NDF BD, advised them on presentation techniques and pronunciation.
The event came to an end with a prize-giving ceremony, followed by a cultural segment. Munni Saha, news head at ATN News and Japanese artists Mae Watanabe were awarded for their contribution.
