Wedding at Govt Science College a day before reopening for classes
Authorities of Government Science College in Dhaka's Tejturi Bazar allowed a wedding at its auditorium tonight -- before it reopens, along with schools and colleges across the country, for in-person classes tomorrow.
The function was held in the evening, said witnesses.
It was the wedding of a college staffer's son, said sources working at the college.
Mohammad Ayub Bhuiyan, principal of the college, said the permission for holding the wedding ceremony was given a month ago.
"We cannot cancel the permission on humanitarian grounds. The date was fixed many days ago," he said.
He added that there will be no problem for them to take preparation and hold in-person classes tomorrow as the event is being held at the auditorium and there are 16 classrooms to hold in-person classes.
Following a significant fall in the Covid-19 daily positivity rate, the government on September 5 decided to resume in-person classes at schools in phases from September 12, after about 18 months of closure.
