Session jam only getting longer at DU
Students of different departments from the academic session of 2016-17 at Dhaka University, who are done with the final exams, are unable to apply for jobs due to delay in publishing results.
Meanwhile, some students are yet to sit for the exams. The university authorities came up with a "Loss Recovery Plan" to enable all departments and institutes to hold final exams and publish results in the quickest possible time. The plan was approved by the university's academic council, and most departments followed its instructions.
However, sources say that some departments have been unable to do so, one of which is the Department of Television, Film and Photography.
The department has not yet held the eighth-semester final exams. Students were unofficially informed that the exams were supposed to begin in January. Students, however, claimed that they have not noticed any such arrangement for holding the exams in the current month.
"We are frustrated to see our batchmates starting their master's classes, while we are still stuck with uncertainty regarding our bachelor's," said a group of students from the department.
Contacted, Habiba Rahman, chair of television, film and photography, said, "We plan to hold the exams by the first week of next month. We couldn't do so earlier as many of our colleagues are infected with Covid-19."
Department of Islamic History and Culture and the Arabic department haven't published their seventh and eighth-semester results yet, while the finance department held the final exams but they are yet to publish the seventh-semester results.
Contacted, DU pro-VC (academic) Prof ASM Maksud Kamal said, "I have already asked the exam controller to give me a list of the departments who are yet to hold the final exams. The process is under my direct monitoring."
