Raushan’s condition improves slightly

The condition of Raushan Ershad, now undergoing treatment at Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, has improved slightly.
"Doctors are monitoring her closely to decide the next course of her treatment," Mamun Hasan, assistant private secretary to Raushan, leader of the opposition in parliament, told The Daily Star yesterday, quoting her daughter-in-law Mahima Ershad as saying.
Despite repeated attempts, this newspaper could not reach Mahima, who is accompanying Raushan, or her husband Rahgir Almahi Saad Ershad, a Jatiya Party lawmaker, over the phone.
Raushan, 78, chief patron of JP and also a lawmaker from Mymensingh-4 (Mymensingh Sadar), was flown to Bangkok by air ambulance on Friday night.
Her health deteriorated last week. She was unconscious for most of the time at the ICU of the capital's Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
Since Aug 15, Raushan had been undergoing treatment at the ICU of Dhaka CMH due to respiratory problems and increased levels of carbon dioxide in her lungs.
Wife of late president HM Ershad, Raushan has been suffering from respiratory problems for several months, JP Chairman GM Quader told The Daily Star.
Quader, who visited Raushan at the Dhaka CMH, said infections spread to different parts of her body, including brain and lungs.
