Over 1,000 vehicles waiting at Paturia-Daulatdia ferry ghat
More than one thousand vehicles have been waiting at Paturia-Daulatdia ferry ghat to cross the Padma river this morning.
Due to the public holiday yesterday (March 17, 2022) and subsequent weekends – Friday and Saturday, the pressure increased on the ferry route, which is the gateway to 21 districts in the southern part of the country. Drivers and passengers were stranded at both sides of the river this morning, our Manikganj correspondent reports.
Mohiuddin Rasel, assistant manager (commerce) at Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha office, said that ferry operation is also being disrupted due to low water flow in the river.
Also, the pressure of passengers and private cars has increased due to the three-day holiday, he said.
Passenger buses and private cars are being crossed on priority basis to deal with the situation.
That's why many goods-laden trucks have remained stranded at the terminals for two-three days, he added.
