Murals of Mujib, 4 leaders demolished in Tangail park

The murals of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders were demolished on Monday night at Tangail Municipal Park (Shahid Srity Pouro Udyan).

A group of unidentified individuals reportedly entered the park with an excavator around 10:00pm and destroyed the murals. The murals had previously suffered partial damage during the anti-discrimination student movement on August 5.

The park falls under the jurisdiction of Tangail municipality, but the murals were constructed a few years ago under the direction of the late Fazlur Rahman Faruk, then chairman of the Tangail Zila Parishad and president of the district Awami League.

Tangail Municipal Administrator Md Shihab Raihan said the demolition was not carried out by the municipal authorities. Tangail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tanvir Ahmed said police were unaware of the incident.
