Locals stop train in Lalmonirhat demanding stoppage for Burimari Express

Locals halted a special train at Kakina Railway Station in Lalmonirhat today, demanding a stoppage for the Burimari Express.
After protesting for about two hours, they released the train when railway authorities assured them of their demand.
Bangladesh Railway assistant inspector Farid Ahmed was inspecting the Lalmonirhat-Burimari rail route on the special train during the protest.
Members of various professional and social organisations joined the demonstration under the banner of Kakina Citizens' Committee, along with local residents.
Protesters said that while the Burimari Express runs through Kakina station on the Burimari-Dhaka route, it does not have a scheduled stoppage there.
They specially mentioned the historical and cultural significance of Kakina station, which is home to poet Sheikh Fazlal Karim, the traditional Uttar Bangla College, a zamindar house, and a road connection to Rangpur city.
Jane Alam Bulu, a member of Kakina Citizens' Committee, said, "We stopped the train and protested for two hours till 2:00pm. Bangladesh Railway Assistant Inspector Farid Ahmed assured us that the Burimari Express will be given a stoppage at Kakina station."
"If this demand is not met, we will launch a tougher movement," he added.
