HC wants documents on proposal
The High Court yesterday wanted all the relevant documents regarding the proposal for narrowing the Jamuna river to see who are involved in it.
The Water Development Board has been ordered to submit the documents before the HC in 10 days.
The HC bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam passed the order while hearing a petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.
The organisation submitted the petition based on a report published in Bangla daily Kalbela on March 11, headlined "Jamuna Nadi Chhoto Korar Chinta" (Plan to narrow Jamuna River).
According to the report, WDB undertook the project to reduce the width of Jamuna.
In the petition, the organisation sought HC order to take legal action against the officials involved in making the proposal for narrowing the river for committing misconduct under the Government Service Act.
Petitioner's lawyer Manzill Murshid said the HC on May 21 asked the government to submit a list of officials involved in the proposal but they did not disclose the names.
The court adjourned the hearing till June 11.
