HC issues rule over Hindu women's marriage registration, divorce rights

The High Court today issued a rule asking the government to explain why its inaction to ensure Hindu women's marriage registration, divorce rights, guardianship and right to ancestral property should not be declared illegal.

The HC bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Muhammad Mahbubul Islam issued the rule following a writ petition filed by some rights organisations including Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust and Ain O Salish Kendra seeking necessary orders on the issue.

Lawyers Syeda Nasrin, SM Rezaul Karim and Md Shahinuzzaman appeared for the petitioners.
