Govt to probe ‘model mosque’ corruption

Says religious affairs adviser; plans to revamp Islamic Foundation

Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain yesterday said the interim government will form an investigation committee to address allegations of corruption related to the construction of "model mosques."

Besides, legal action will be pursued against those found guilty of these corrupt practices, he added.

Speaking as the chief guest at a day-long seminar held at the Islamic Foundation in Agargaon, Hossain said the ministry will set up a committee to investigate those responsible for destroying the Islamic Foundation.

Hossain emphasised that the Islamic Foundation will undergo significant transformation to enhance its effectiveness. He said long-serving officials will be reassigned to field positions, while qualified and efficient field-level officers will be appointed to key roles at the head office.

The adviser criticised the recent deviations from the Foundation's core activities, vision, and mission, attributing these issues to political interference. He said the Foundation would be kept above political influence moving forward.Additionally, Hossain announced that intelligence agencies will assist in assessing the increase in wealth among Islamic Foundation officials and employees over the past 15 years.

He said legal action will be taken if any irregularities or corruption are found.
