German national among three hurt during robbery

At least three people, including a German national, were injured in an attack by robbers in Barguna, while an actor suffered injuries after being shot by miscreants in Ashulia in a separate incident yesterday.

In Barguna, some 10-12 masked robbers, armed with locally made firearms and sharp weapons, attacked Nazrul Islam Talukder's residence in Ghotkhali village under Amtali upazila around 3:00am. They entered the house by cutting window grills, said police.

The robbers locked up all family members in a room, beat up Nazrul, his relative German expatriate Rokeya Rathi and her husband Rathi, who is a German citizen, and looted around Tk 4 lakh cash, six tolas of gold ornaments, three mobile phones and other valuables, claimed Nazrul.

Hearing the victims' screams, neighbours rushed to the house, prompting the robbers to flee, said Md Ariful Islam, officer-in-charge of Amtali Police Station.

Police are trying to arrest the robbers, the OC added.

In Dhaka's Ashulia, television actor Azizur Rahman Azad was bullet hit while his mother and wife were also injured in an attack by unidentified miscreants at his residence, said the family members.

Azad's elder sister Afrina Akhter said around 2:45am, Azad heard some unusual sounds from the kitchen on the first floor. As he went there, three unidentified miscreants opened fire at him. Three bullets hit Azad's legs.

"Hearing the gunfire, my mother and Azad's wife rushed to the kitchen, the criminals beat them up too, fired 10-15 blanks, and fled the scene without looting anything," she also said.

The victims were later admitted to a private hospital in Dhaka.

Police are looking into the incident, said OC Nur Alam Siddique of Ashulia Police Station.
