Garment workers blocked the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway since this morning following the death of a fellow in a road accident in Hurricane area of Gacha, Gazipur.

According to Gazipur Traffic Police Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Pal, a truck ran over the woman and fled the scene around 7:45am.

The victim, whose identity could not be confirmed immediately, died on the spot, the police official said.

In protest, fellow workers began a blockade on the highway at around 8:15am. As of 11:45am, the blockade was still in place, causing severe traffic congestion on both sides of the highway.

The disruption resulted in significant suffering for commuters, including passengers, drivers, and pedestrians.

Law enforcement officials, including police, rushed to the scene and are working to restore order and clear the road.
