Fire at Wari colony: Wife dies a day after husband
In a heart-wrenching development, a woman who was engulfed by the raging fire that broke out in the sweeper colony near the Joy Kali Temple in Dhaka's Wari on March 27, died yesterday morning, a day after her husband.
Shanti Rani, 27, wife of Raju Bosak, fought for her life at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, but couldn't make it.
With over 40 percent burns, she breathed her last around 8:00am, leaving behind her two young children Krishna and Laxman, and their grandmother Kanta Rani, who are also receiving treatment in the same hospital.
Earlier, Raju, who also suffered burns in the same incident, died at the hospital early Saturday.
The couple, who were trying to protect their family, suffered severe burns, but despite the best efforts of the medical team, they could not be saved. The children are now fighting for their lives, clinging onto the hope of survival.
This incident has left a deep scar on the community, as at least 40 rooms were razed to the ground by the flames, leaving many families homeless.
