Edible oil price will come down soon: Law Minister

Law Minister Anisul Huq today said the price of edible oil will come down to some extent shortly as the government has taken steps to keep the price under control.
"The price of edible oil has increased across the world in recent times – something not witnessed in last 40 years. This has made an impact in the market of Bangladesh. I think, the price will be reduced shortly because of the steps taken by the government. People should have patience," he said.
The minister made the remark while replying to queries from reporters at Brahmanbaria's Kasba Upazila Parishad auditorium where an extension meeting of Upazila Awami League was held. Anisul Huq addressed the meeting as its chief guest.
Replying to another query, the law minister told reporters that the Election Commission, who has been formed as per law, has taken over its responsibility.
"I believe that the Election Commission will hold the Zila Parishad (district council) elections soon as their first work. The government will amend the relevant law for the interest of the election if it is necessary," the minister said.
Local Awami League leaders Majibur Rahman, Mahabubul Bari Chowdhury Mantu, Md Shah Alam, Rashedul Kawsar Bhuiyan Jiban, MJ Hakkani and Emran Uddin Jewel, among others, were present at the meeting.
