Firefighters could not respond to the fire at Shudha Sadan in Dhanmondi due to lack of security and obstruction by protesters.

Md Saleh Uddin, deputy director of Dhaka Division Fire Service and Civil Defence, said this while talking to The Daily Star today.

Shudha Sadan, the residence of Wajed Miah, the late husband of Sheikh Hasina, was set on fire around 11:00pm yesterday.

On August 5 last year, following the fall of the Awami League-led government, protesters vandalised Sudha Sadan.
