College student drowns in Meghna river

A college student drowned while bathing in the Meghna river in Char Kishoreganj area of Munshiganj today.
The deceased, Imam Hossain Noyon, 26, of Kurirpara village in Narayanganj, was a third-year student of Narayanganj College and an employee of a private company named Asiatic Tech in Munshiganj.
Noyon and six of his colleagues went to bathe in the river in Char Kishoreganj at around 3:30pm. He was swept away by the strong current and drowned. His colleagues immediately called the national emergency number 999 for help. Fire service, coast guard, and river police personnel then joined a rescue operation and recovered his body at around 5:30pm.
Shafiqul Islam, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Munshiganj, confirmed the incident.
The body has been handed over to family.
