Bridge Construction Site: Landslide kills three workers
Three workers were killed and four others injured after a landslide buried them at an under-construction bridge site in Faridpur yesterday morning.
The dead are Ontor, 27, Julhas, 28, of Faridpur Sadar, and Javed, 29, of Bagerhat district, said police.
The incident took place around 11:30am at Jamaddar village in Sadarpur upazila, said Subrata Goldar, officer-in-charge of Sadarpur Police Station.
According to locals, despite warnings, the contractor kept piles of soil on the banks of the canal. Due to rain, some of the soil slid back into the canal hampering the piling work.
The accident happened when the soil on the banks fell on the workers who were removing it from the canal bed, the OC said.
The injured were taken to a local hospital for treatment, he added.
Some workers and locals said they have urged the contractor to move the soil from the bank fearing an accident. But the contractor didn't pay hid.
