Anisuzzaman new special assistant to CA

Aminul Islam who oversaw edn ministry resigned from same post

The interim government yesterday appointed Anisuzzaman Chowdhury as a special assistant to the chief adviser with the rank of state minister.

He will oversee matters related to the finance ministry, according to a gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division.

On the same day, Prof M Aminul Islam, another special assistant to Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus who oversaw the education ministry, resigned from his post.

Speaking to The Daily Star, Aminul said he submitted his resignation letter to the Cabinet Division through his personal secretary.

When asked about the reason for his resignation, he said the Chief Adviser's Office had asked him to step down on Sunday and again on Monday.

When asked about the matter, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said, "We have heard that he [Aminul] resigned."

Anisuzzaman, who has been given charge of finance-related affairs, is a professor at the University of Western Sydney and the University of New South Wales. He previously held senior UN positions in New York and Bangkok.

Anisuzzaman completed his PhD and MA at the University of Manitoba and obtained his Honours and Master's degrees from Jahangirnagar University.
