2 killed in Gazipur road accident

Two passengers of a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw were killed in a road accident in Gazipur around 10:00am today, while two more were injured.

The incident took place on the Chandana Chowrasta-Shibbari road in Gazipur.

The names of the deceased and the injured are not known yet.

Sub-inspector (SI) Swapna Akhter of Gazipur's Joydebpur Police Station said that the bodies of the two deceased have been kept at the Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue. The injured have also been sent to that hospital.

According to Gazipur Fire Service In-charge Samad Mia, a speeding Dhaka-bound Gazipur Paribahan bus had lost control and collided with the auto-rickshaw, killing two on the spot.

He added that immediately after the clash, an agitated crowd set the bus on fire.

On receiving information, a unit of the fire service reached the spot, brought the fire under control and conducted rescue operations, Samad Mia said.

Further legal action is ongoing, according to the police.
