Govt scraps Shantinagar to Dhaka-Mawa Road flyover project after 15 years

After considering for nearly 15 years, the government has decided to not construct a flyover from Shantinagar to Jhilmil on Dhaka-Mawa Road.
A proposal to remove the project "Flyover from Shantinagar to Dhaka-Mawa Road (Jhilmil)" from the public-private partnership (PPP) list was approved in principle at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today.
The minister, in a briefing on the issue following the meeting, said that in the current situation, there is no need to build such a flyover.
However, if the concerned ministry wants to do something else regarding this, it will be studied, he added.
Permission of appointing Consortium of (1) China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCCL) and (2) China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) as investors for the project of upgrading Rampura-Amulia-Demra Highway into four-lane by the Roads and Highways Department under Road Transport and Highways Division was also given in the meeting, in principle.
Besides, eight proposals were raised in the meeting for the approval of the Purchase Committee. Out of the total financing, TK 167,79,54,900 will be spent from government funds and TK 982,38,08,793 from local banks, World Bank, ADB and Saudi Development Fund.
