KCC Polls: Four out of seven mayoral candidates’ nominations rejected
The nomination papers of four out of seven mayoral candidates in the Khulna City Corporation election were rejected yesterday.
Returning Officer Md Alauddin declared their candidacy invalid after scrutinising the nomination papers around 11:00am.
He cited lack of information and discrepancy as reasons, among others.
Meanwhile, nomination papers of three mayoral candidates were declared valid.
They are: former KCC mayor and Awami League candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Maulana Abdul Awal, and Jatiya Party candidate Md Shafiqul Islam Madhu.
Jaker Party candidate SM Sabbir Hossain, independent candidates AL Amin Md Abdullah Chouwdhury, SM Shafiqur Rahman, and Syed Kamrul Islam had their nomination cancelled.
Scrutiny of nomination papers of candidates for reserved and general councillor posts is underway. The returning officer will announce the final list of candidates after the scrutiny is over.
The KCC election will be held on June 12.
