OxfordAQA officially launches in Bangladesh

International exam board promises UK-standard qualifications tailored for global learners

OxfordAQA, the world's fastest growing international exam board, was officially launched in Bangladesh yesterday.

An event at the Westin Dhaka spotlighted the board's commitment to international education rooted in UK assessment expertise.

According to a press statement, OxfordAQA aims to prepare students for global success by focusing on higher order thinking skills and ensuring accessibility for students for whom English is an additional language.

The event was conducted by Shahin Reza, OxfordAQA's newly appointed country director for Bangladesh and Nepal, and featured presentations from Andrew Coombe, managing director of OxfordAQA, and Matt MacGregor, training and support team leader.

Prof SMA Faiz, chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), was present as the chief guest.

British Council's Exams Director Maxim Raimann also attended as special guest and formally announced OxfordAQA's official entry into the Bangladeshi education landscape.

A joint venture between Oxford University Press and the UK's largest GCSE and A-level exam board AQA, OxfordAQA brings a fresh and fair approach to international assessment with qualifications tailored to global learners.

Faiz welcomed the launch, saying, "I'm absolutely delighted to know that OxfordAQA qualifications are now available for the students in Bangladesh. I hope they will make their qualifications more affordable for our students and offer necessary training, so our teachers are equipped to teach students by maintaining international standards."

Raimann reaffirmed the British Council's commitment to supporting UK exam boards in delivering high-quality exams.

Country Director Shahin said school leaders across Bangladesh had responded positively to OxfordAQA's introduction.

"We are absolutely committed to supporting schools in Bangladesh in adopting OxfordAQA qualifications.

Training and Support Team Leader MacGregor remarked, "It has been a privilege to meet and work alongside some of Bangladesh's most passionate and dedicated educators. As OxfordAQA grows in Bangladesh, I look forward to bringing our comprehensive, dynamic and examiner-led training, support and thought leadership to teachers."
