BCL activists accused of torturing 3 Dhaka College students
Three students of Dhaka College have been tortured allegedly by Chhatra League activists at the North Hostel.
The incident took place in the early hours today.
The students who were beaten up are Rakib bin Raju, a first-year student of the geography department; Tanveer, of Islamic history and culture; and Borhan, of the Bangla department.
Of them, Raju sustained head injuries.
According to the victims, they received primary treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The accused are Junaid Bogdadi, a student of Islamic History and Culture; Rocky, a student of the Bangla department; and Shahin Alam.
They are all second-year students and activists of the Dhaka College unit BCL.
All of them are known to be followers of Chhatra League leader Jasim Uddin of North Hostel.
Describing the incident, a student wishing anonymity said, "Seniors called us to a guestroom and tortured us. A student was left with a broken finger and another one suffered serious head injuries."
Denying the allegation, one of the accused, Junaid, told The Daily Star that they tried to resolve a dispute among first-year students. "We just settled the matter as seniors. We did not hurt anyone."
Chhatra League leader Md Jasim Uddin told The Daily Star, "A small incident happened among first-year students. They settled it themselves."
Talking to the Daily Star, Obaidul Karim, hall superintendent of North Hostel, said, "We did not get a written complaint yet. This incident was a misunderstanding among the students. This issue has already been resolved by them as far as I know."
In the last one month, two campus journalists were beaten up by Chhatra League leaders at another Dhaka College hostel.
