Danish crown princess due on April 25
Crown Princess Mary of Denmark will make a three-day visit to Bangladesh beginning April 25 as the two countries seek to deepen cooperation on climate change, especially regarding renewable energy, and blue economy.
Upon her arrival in Dhaka in the morning, the crown princess will call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Gono Bhaban.
She will also hold a meeting with Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen at the state guesthouse Padma. The two countries will sign an expression of interest for a green partnership.
She will fly out to Cox's Bazar later in the day.
The next day, she will visit Rohingya camps, where she will interact with the refugees and their host community and see soil erosion control and environmental restoration activities implemented by the Danish Refugee Council.
From Cox's Bazar, she will fly to Satkhira, where she will interact with climate-vulnerable community members, see a multipurpose cyclone shelter and the Sundarbans, a World Centre site that works as a shield from the cyclones that are a frequent phenomenon in Bangladesh.
Denmark is providing humanitarian assistance to the Rohingyas and the Crown Princess' visit will highlight their cause globally, Faiyaz Murshid Kazi, director general (West Europe and EU) at the foreign ministry, told The Daily Star.
Her visit will focus on climate change and how cooperation can increase in the sector.
"Denmark is a world leader in renewable energy and maritime carbon solutions and we are eager to work together on these solutions," Faiyaz said, adding that the Scandinavian nation has green solutions to industrial pollution.
