MFS agent dies 5 days after attack in Jamalpur

A trader, who suffered injuries in an attack by miscreants on June 15 died in a hospital in Jamalpur Sadar upazila last night

 

A trader, who suffered injuries in an attack by hijackers on June 15 in Jamalpur died in a Dhaka hospital last night.

The deceased Mintu Mia, 52, of Balapathalia Fakirbari of Sharifpur union, was a Mobile Financial Services (MFS) agent of Godashimla market.

The victim's wife, Sinha Yesmin Shila, filed a murder case with the Sadar Police Station early today.

Afterwards, police arrested three accused and produced them before a court with a five-day remand prayer.

The court later sent the accused to jail today.

The arrestees are Mamun Fokir, Rajon Fokir, and Maruf Hossain of Godashimla village.

Quoting locals and the case statement, Shah Newaz, officer in-charge of Jamalpur Sadar Police Station, said Mintu was returning to his residence around 11:00pm on June 15 after closing his shop.

On his way home, a group of unidentified criminals robbed him of Tk 2 lakh in cash and struck him in his head, leaving him critically injured, the OC said.

Later, locals rescued him and took him to Jamalpur General Hospital. He was then taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 10:00pm yesterday, he added.
