Teen killed by friends for asking to return money lent earlier: Police

Eighteen-year-old college student Sakib Al Mahmud, who was found dead 10 days after he went missing, was killed allegedly by his friends for demanding money which he lent to a friend, said police.

Police came to know the mysterious of Sakib's death after they arrested the victim's friend Abdur Rahman Piyas (18), our Savar correspondent reports quoting Qazi Mainul Islam, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station.

During a primary interrogation, Piyas admitted to police that he and his friends killed Sakeb during an altercation over money, said the police official.

"Friends (Piyas and others) killed their friend (Sakib) for wanting the money, which was given to Piyas as loan. One person (Pias) has already been arrested. Some friends of the victim were involved in the incident. We are trying to arrest them," said the OC.

Mokhlesur Rahman, sub-inspector of Savar Model Police Station, said they have arrested Piyas in connection with the murder.

The knife and some other evidence in the murder have been recovered, said SI Mokhlesur, also the investigating officer in the case.

Being informed by locals after the smell of the rotted corpse spread among people, police recovered the body of Sakib (18), son of Kanchan Miah, from the septic tank of an abandoned house in Savar last evening 10 days after he went missing.

Later, police detained Piyas for interrogation. Based on information given by Piyas, the knife and some evidence used in the murder were recovered, said the investigation officer.

The victim's brother filed a case against Piyas (18), Emon (18) and Nabin (18) and four unidentified people with Savar Model Police Station today.

According to the case statement, Sakib went out of the house around 9 pm on March 17 after receiving a call and did not return home. The day after the disappearance, a general diary (GD) was lodged by the victim's brother with Savar Model police station. A complaint was also lodged with Rab on March 19.

Talking to this correspondent, Sakib's brother Rakib said after filing the GD, Piyas told them that he had a conversation with Sakib via messenger. Sakib went into hiding with a girl and was in need of some money.

Rakib alleged that actually, on the night of March 17, his brother was killed by Piyas and other friends and his body was dumped in an abandoned septic tank for the disappearance.

"To cover up the incident, Piyas had staged a drama with us so that we could not understand the matter. I want justice for my brother's murder," added Rakib.

SI Mokhlesur Rahman further said Piyas was put on a three-day remand by a court after he was produced before the court this afternoon.
