Stolen newborn rescued after 23 days in Khulna

Police rescued a newborn baby last night from the Parbisnupur area under Kalia upazila in Narail district after 23 days of stealing from Khulna Medical College Hospital.
The baby was handed over to his mother Ranima Begum today. Turab Ali, husband of Ranima, relatives and officials of Khulna Metropolitan Police, among others, were present at the time.
Momtazul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sonadanga Model Police Station told BSS that the police team acting on a tip-off conducted an operation to the residence of a couple identified as Ranu Khanam and Lalon Molla at Parbisnupur in the upazila last evening.
Police personnel rescued the 23-day-old baby from their possession and arrested the couple.
The OC said the arrested couple bought the newborn from a woman with Tk 1.80 lakh from the capital on January 25, as they have no child of their own.
On January 24, Ranima, a residence of Fakirhat upazila under Bagerhat gave birth to the boy.
The baby went missing at 5:00 p.m. on the day after Ranima handed him over to an unknown woman in front of KMCH while her husband and other relatives were arguing with an ambulance driver over the fare, according to the OC.
But the woman fled away along with the baby from the spot.
Turab Ali, the father of the baby, filed a case with Sonadanga Model Police Station accusing unknown persons.
