Sinha murder case: HC allows 2 more convicts' appeals for hearing
The High Court today (April 6, 2022) allowed to hear the appeals of two other convicts in the sensational Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan murder case.
The convicts are-- Sagar Deb and Rubel Sharma who were sentenced to life imprisonment by the trial court in the case. They sought acquittal in the appeals.
The HC bench Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar passed the order after the convicts' lawyer Mohammad Shishir Manir placed the appeals for their admission for hearing.
The appeals will be heard and disposed of later on along with the death reference (trial court documents) of the case, Deputy Attorney General Aminul Islam told The Daily Star.
Earlier last month, another HC bench allowed to hear the appeals of death-row convicts--Pradeep Kunar Das and Liaqat Ali, their lawyer Rana Dasgupta said today.
On January 31, Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail sentenced Pradeep Kunar Das, suspended officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station and its suspended sub-inspector Liaqat Ali, to death and also six others to life term imprisonment for killing Major (retd) Sinha.
The six are dismissed SI Nandadulal Rakkhit, constables Sagar Deb and Rubel Sharma and police informants Md Nezamuddin, Nurul Amin and Ayaz Uddin.
Sinha's elder sister filed the murder case at Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court against Pradeep, Nandadulal and several others on August 5 in 2020.
The documents of the case were sent as death reference to the HC on February 8, this year for the examination of the trial court verdict.
