Shahed gets permanent bail in graft case

The High Court yesterday granted permanent bail to Regent Hospital Chairman Mohammad Shahed in a corruption case filed on charge of embezzling Tk 2 crore from Padma Bank (formerly Farmers Bank) in the name of purchasing an MRI machine.

The ACC filed the case with its Dhaka office on July 27, 2020 against Shahed, Mahbubul Haque Chisty, former chairman of the bank's audit committee, managing director of Regent Hospital Ibrahim Khalil; and Mahbubul Haque Chisty's son Rashedul Haque Chisty.

Yesterday, the HC bench of Justice SM Kuddus Zaman and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kazal delivered the verdict after holding hearing on a petition filed by Shahed. He cannot get released from jail as he is arrested in other criminal cases.
