Rab arrests 4 for cutting off madrasa teacher's tongue

Rapid Action Battalion has arrested four in a case filed over cutting off the tongue of a madrasa teacher and assaulting him in Brahmanbaria's Akhaura upazila on Sunday.
After the arrests, the criminals confessed to Rab-9 members that they attacked the madrasa teacher and cut off his tongue because some parts of his speech at a waz mahfil was not acceptable to them.
Several teams of Rab raided different places in Chattogram and Brahmanbaria and arrested the four last night and in the early hours today, Rab-9 Captain and Wing Commander Mominul Haque said at a press briefing this afternoon.
The arrestees are Zakir Hossain Zakku, 48, and Mahbubul Alam Shimul, 33, of Sreepur village, Sumon Mia, 35, and Amirul Islam Rimon, 20, of Chawra Daulatbari village.
According to Rab, Shariful Islam Noori, 38, a lecturer of Sreepur Islamia Fazil Madrasa of Bijoynagar upazila came under attack while he was returning from a religious gathering after delivering a sermon at Daulatbari Darbar Sharif on Sunday night.
A group of seven to eight men attacked him near the Ramdhannagar level crossing area in Akhaura.
The arrestees will be sent to jail through the court, the Rab official added.
