A protest was held in front of the house of Rashed Chowdhury -- one of the killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman -- in northern California, USA on National Mourning Day.

California State Awami League, Northern California Awami League and USA Awami League jointly organised the protest on Sunday.

Sheikh Mina -- daughter of Bangabandhu's brother Sheikh Abu Nasser who was also killed on August 15, 1975 -- was present at the protest, among others, with the spontaneous participation of Bangladeshis in California.

"I was 14 when the August 15 carnage happened. Even after all this time, all the murderers could not be brought to justice," lamented Mina.

"My family, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's family, we are all waiting. That's why I am standing in front of the killer's house, holding a banner. Justice will be served one day, and truth will prevail. We will not give up until then," she added.

Expatriate Bangladeshis living in northern California do not want convict Rashed Chowdhury to live among them. They are taking a stand to send Bangabandhu's killer back to Bangladesh and have his death sentence executed, local Awami League leaders said at the protest.

They called on the US government and the State Department to expedite Rashed's extradition to Bangladesh.

It was learned that the house located in Walnut Creek, northern California, was bought in the name of Rupam Chowdhury, son of Rashed, and the convicted killer of Bangabandhu has been staying there since last July.
