Nursery owner shot in Gulshan

A nursery owner was shot by unidentified assailants in the capital's Gulshan Lake area this afternoon.
The injured is Shariful Alam Karim, 35, a resident of Gawair area of Dhaka's Dakkhinkhan.
He was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with a bullet wound on his stomach, said Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
Quoting his family members, the inspector said the incident took place around 2:15pm near Gulshan-1 Lake.
Karim told reporters he owns a nursery business in Mohakhali. When he was walking to his shop through Gulshan this afternoon, 3-4 masked assailants pulled him to one side of the road saying that they urgently needed to talk to him. When he refused, a scuffle broke out during which one of the assailants shot him in the left side of his abdomen before fleeing the scene.
Inspector Md Faruk confirmed the attack.
Karim's condition remains critical, and is currently undergoing emergency treatment, said the policeman.
Police said the incident likely took place over an extortion demand without providing details.
Assistant Commissioner of DMP Gulshan Zone Ali Ahmed Masud said, "A person was shot in Gulshan this afternoon. We are looking into the matter. The filing of a case is underway."
