The High Court today cautioned former Superintendent of Kushtia police SM Tanvir Arafat for misbehaving with a senior judicial magistrate during Bheramara municipality elections on January 16.

Tanvir must be careful in discharging his professional duties in future, the HC bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman said while delivering verdict on a suo moto (voluntary) contempt of court rule issued against him.

The HC bench, however, exonerated Tanvir, who is now deputy commissioner (traffic) of Barishal Metropolitan Police, from the contempt of court charge, as he offered unconditional apology for his misconduct with the Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Mohsin Hasan and he also submitted an undertaking that he will be cautious while discharging professional duties in future.

During the proceedings, Tanvir's lawyer Munshi Moniruzzaman prayed to the HC bench to pardon his client.

On January 25, the HC bench led by Justice Mamnoon Rahman rebuked Tanvir Arafat for his misbehaviour with the senior judicial magistrate, saying that he must act in such a manner so that people don't feel that a police state has been established.
